“If there's a book you really want to read
but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it.”
-Toni Morrison
While attending a Conference on EDUCATION THROUGH CREATIVITY,I happened to hear an address by one of the speakers whose concluding words stirred my thought process in refining the art of motivating the young minds. He spoke on the essence of motivation and concluded his speech saying, “ In our country,Vivekanandas are everywhere, yearning for a Guru and ready to be refined but there are far and few Ramakrishna Parmahansas to take up the responsibility.”
Today in this techno-savvy world , there are a few takers of creative writing who can actually initiate the young minds towards creativity through knowledge in their chosen field of interest. Science and Technology may have expanded horizons of the outer material world by creating wonderful things of luxury and comfort but what is missing is the creative vision of the individual that can measure the expanses of self awareness and self development. MONETARY benefits promise a cyclic journey to the zenith and nadir of comfort & amusement but they do not beget MONITORY benefits for the inner self which eventually finds itself shackled in a golden chain. It really needs a great amount of patience, sincerity and dedication to propel oneself towards self improvement against the tide.
At this juncture where science and technology are at the doorsteps to cater to the commom man's needs, a software called 'creative writing'is to be brought to the doorstep of the young minds to enable them to realise and enhance the inner power of self discovery and self-excellence.
The HEART of education is the EDUCATION of heart
The above statement may appear a mere shuffle of words but beneath it lies the beautiful art of expression, emphasising a philosophical or spiritual thought. That exactly is the art of creative writing, one of the prominent soft skills(the others being Reading , Listening and Speaking),reflecting the spectrum of thoughts that the human mind produces or can produce.
We all know that Pandit Nehru was the first Prime Minister and architect of Independent & Modern India and this fact further connects us to the extraordinary yet simple art of self expression that he possessed and exhibited through his immortal letters
written within the four walls of the Naini prison igniting the young mind of his daughter Indira Priyadarshini. The letters took the form of a book which later created history in the
world of literature through its title 'Discovery of India'. What an exemplary classic way to discover India through the power of the ink!
Nehru's personality reflected not only through his power in minding the riots through politics but also in calming the rioting minds through writing. India and Indians will ever remember Nehru's contribution to the world of Literature and Rabindranath Tagore as well for winning the Nobel prize for literature. Whereas Nehru's book nurtured the cultural heritage of India, Tagore's verse'Gitanjali' nurtured the thirst of man to experience the Supreme power of God and the solution to quench that immortal thirst.
The two great personalities reflected their inner souls to mankind through the power of writing, the former wrote a masterpiece , discovering a nation, sitting within the limited and restricted horizons of the body but allowing the mind to travel in unlimited and vast horizons of intelligence tinged with true knowledge, and the latter winning the country's only Nobel Prize in Literature through his incredible narration of man-God relationship. This is the essence of 'writing' where the mind and soul experience a thought process and progress towards personality development. The personality traits of the two great writers reveal the following essentials to improve, enhance and enrich a personality through writing:
- Maintain a diary and start writing atleast a page daily about your day's activities before retiring to bed.
- Read your diary every weekend.
- Read only constructive news material and check the vocabulary and sentence construction of what you read.
- Try writing news about location, the residents and the activities of the area.
- Develop humour and reflect it in your writing.
- While writing, have a check on your handwriting too. It will improve simultaneously.
- Have patience while composing sentences or poetic lines.
- Avoid inviting others to judge your ideas when you compose.
- Expand your horizons of writing skills with an eye on the clarity of thought.
- Remember, writing is an art which is earned and not inborn, so develop it for
self -improvement.
“Write down the thoughts of the moment. Those that come unsought for are commonly the most valuable.”
-Francis Bacon
Personality Development is an art of self enrichment, an internal journey towards eternal self by self to present self in social circles in the best way possible and writing, along with speaking , listening and reading helps in creating a wholesome personality.
“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become”
- Buddha
