GRAMMAR - CHARMER

COPING WITH GRAMMAR – THE PLAYWAY

It was yet another afternoon class of Grammar in the college where I taught for eleven wonderful years. As I wrote the word GRAMMAR on the board and turned back, I saw a titanic-sunk look in everybody's eyes. They were all ready to sink and thus I had to instantly change the scenario by making it an interactive word power class. The class ended in delight but I did not stop wondering what it was that made the word GRAMMAR look so unaccepatable everywhere.

Back home , I let my mind wander to find some solution to this GRAMMAR-PHOBIA . What I experienced is now in front of my readers and hope they can benefit by this in making children understand the true facts behind this concept. Let me start with a nursery rhyme :

TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR

HOW I WONDER WHAT YOU ARE

UP ABOVE THE WORLD SO HIGH

LIKE A DIAMOND IN THE SKY

( Try finding grammar in each word and feel the fun!)

This sweet nursery rhyme lingers in our minds and we orate it so casually that it seems as if it is a part of our day to day living. But what we fail to understand is whether knowingly or unknowingly, each word of this rhyme is full of grammar! Amazing ! Isn't it? So we all learnt GRAMMAR even in our early age but the difference is that nobody taught us this rhyme using the word GRAMMAR.

Yes. Grammar is a very essential part of our language and it has to be learnt, if not seriously , then atleast by using the playway method. We have to tell our children that :

      1. Grammar is everywhere and in everything.

      2. It is in all the songs that we hear , cherish and learn by heart

      3. Whatever you speak , you speak only grammar.

To begin with , hum a line of your favourite song and then try finding Grammar in it and you will end up in FUN-FUL learning.

Believe me, your children will start loving this concept and learn essential things in this playway method. Try this today with your child.

HAPPY PARENTING!
